During one of the big storms at the beginning of the semester there was a huge gust of wind that brought a large branch from a tree down in the front of Caroline. Mostly it was regarded as a nuisance because it was blocking the path from the dormitory to Montgomery Hall, but if you really looked at its patterns and bark it was a very beautiful piece of tree. It is mostly sad that it fell because then it is no longer within the realm of appreciation, its days were numbered and it would soon be taken away to be made into compost of lumber or trash.
It is not art because it is accidental and a once living entity that never would have been considered in the same way had it not fallen to the earth and inconvenience a lot of people. I loved its camouflage pattern and the variations in the color of the bark. It was a beautiful piece of wood and I wonder where it is now.
