Artist 3 - Rafeal Lozano-Hemmer

Rafeal Lozano-Hemmer placed 18 robotic searchlights around a Mexico City plaza and controlled them from the inter-web.  They were set up in order to celebrate the millennium in place of a Y2K crisis.  The lights were able to be seen from up to 20 kilometers away.  Although this was a brilliant spectacle in itself, the real art piece was the comments left on the site that the show was recorded on.  People were able to make moving or political statement and express themselves without a censor.

What drew me to the work was the city scape because photography with that as its central focus interests me.  The lights against the sky are also beautiful.
